Replacing Leaf Springs On A Trailer

However, when your trailer's leaf springs begin to exhibit signs of wear and tear this can also spell disaster for the transport safety of whatever it is you are pulling behind. But, fear not as we're going to walk you through how to change your leaf springs step-by-step.

Part 1: Buy Some New Leaf Springs

New Leaf Springs: Before you even get to replacing your current leaf springs, the first thing you are going to require is new leaf springs. You can usually buy these online or at a local auto parts stores. Picking the ideal size for your exact trailer is crucial.

Step 2: Elevate the Trailer

Using a jack stand, raise the trailer frame just high enough for replacement.

Step 3: Take Off the Wheels

Remove the lug nuts holding the wheels in place with a lug wrench. After, remove the wheels from your trailer.

Step 4: Remove the Old Leaf Springs

Locate the old leaf springs, and use a socket wrench to remove them from where they are bolted onto the frame of your trailer. Also, do not forget to remove the bolts that connect the spring with the hanger of your trailer.

Press new leaf springs into place

Reposition the new set of leaf springs in place similar to how you have done it with your old ones. Use a socket wrench to tighten the bolts that connect the spring to your trailer's hanger. Use nuts and bolts to secure the spring onto the frame of the trailer.
